The Strive Approach

Sonia McMullen, owner/founder of Strive Rehab, will first get to know you through an initial assessment. She will customise a treatment program tailored to get you back to moving well, with treatment focused on your goals.

Consistency

You will see Sonia, the same experienced physiotherapist, for every review. Most likely your sessions will begin as Private Sessions (1:1), and as you progress, you may benefit from Semi-Privates (2:1). By seeing Sonia for every session, she will know you well. She’ll know your gains and your setbacks; she will tailor your program, building in challenge and intensity as you progress, and knowing when to ease back.

Holistic

Sonia believes in a holistic approach, and her assessments include a wellness screen as sleep, nutrition, and mindfulness can powerfully influence recovery. If any area needs support, she can teach simple techniques you can implement immediately and recommend medical and allied health professionals who can provide support. You may benefit from treatment outside the physiotherapy scope of practice for best outcomes, and referral to other allied health practitioners may be recommended and discussed with you. Liaison with other allied health practitioners, your GP, and medical specialists may be needed, and, with your consent, Sonia will connect with your healthcare team to help support you back to your best health.

Gaining Independence

Throughout your program, Sonia will support you toward independent management and provide feedback to you regrading progress toward goals and discharge. Once you have achieved your goals, new goals can be discussed and set. When you feel that you have achieved your best outcomes and/or you have completed the therapy program recommended, you will be discharged. Sonia is passionate about assuring that her clients feel capable and knowledge regarding managing and maintaining health and prevention strategies upon completion of their rehab program.

Effort

For best results in your rehabilitation, be ready to put in commitment, concentration, and whole-person effort (mental, emotional, and physical). It is recommended that you complete your home program and implement education provided regarding postural and biomechanical awareness in daily activities and functional movement.

Whole-Body Approach

At Strive Rehab, Sonia treats with a “whole body approach” – so although you may be coming in with a singular condition or area of concern, she will assess your entire body’s movement to determine the influence of other factors, e.g. a sore hip or knee may actually be caused by dysfunctional movement at the spine and pelvis. Similarly, for example in neuro-recovery, it is imperative to stabilise the trunk and pelvis if optimal strength gains are made in the leg during daily activities like walking.

Maintaining Gains in Real-Life

Sonia will address your condition and concerns, work to improve your strength and ability, and she will go the extra mile to assess how everyday activities, habits, and responsibilities influence how well you recover, as these can importantly affect how long-lasting your improvements will be. Ultimately Sonia hopes that your outcome is moving well so you can live well!
